Dr. Tom: As always, it’s what everyone else thinks.
Erica: What, you expect me not to care? Is that the whole point of this exercise? Because if it is, guess what? I failed. I still care, and I’m always gonna care!
Dr. Tom: You realize you’re screaming.
Erica: So?!
Dr. Tom: So when you blew off that dentist, you cared that your parents were gonna be disappointed, right?
Erica: Yes, but that—
Dr. Tom: And when you walked into that gymnasium, you cared that everybody was staring at you.
Erica: Yes!
Dr. Tom: But you did it anyway.
Erica: Yeah, because I had to!
Dr. Tom: We don’t have to do anything.
Erica: You know what? Screw this. I’m done.
Dr. Tom: No, you’re not done. I never expected you to stop caring, Erica. I just wanted you to stop letting that get in your way. You didn’t fail, Erica. Your parents’ opinions and your friends’ opinions, yeah, of course they’re always gonna matter. They just don’t matter as much as your own.
